Mag. Dr. Gernot Walder Infektiologie – Infectiology - chemist - emergency doctor and East Tyrolean original.
He grew up in mountainous Villgraten, graduated from the Lienz grammar school and studied chemistry in Innsbruck, then moved on to microbiology because he was interested in the degradation of soil pollutants by fungi and bacteria. As he had also been in the mountain rescue service and the fire brigade since the age of 18, he also studied medicine as a master’s degree holder and then also worked as an emergency doctor.
He then worked at the Institute for Hygiene in Innsbruck and soon immersed himself in laboratory medicine, specifically serology. In 2010 he founded his own laboratory in Außervillgraten and even achieved L3 certification. Since then he has been doing infection diagnostics for the a.ö. Krankenhaus Lienz and stands for fast and high-quality analysis in southern Austria and northern Italy.
Scientifically, he and his team succeeded in proving that TBE-infected ticks had managed to become endemic in Vorarlberg. Zoonoses, i.e. diseases transmitted by animals, became an additional speciality.
At present, 18 employees work in the Dr. Gernot Walder laboratory. Concentrated expertise and organisational know-how complement each other very well and strive to deliver fast and high-quality results.
